The Sitting Room

The Sitting Room

The Sitting room overlooks the garden terrace and is one of the original rooms from when the house was built in 1879.

The fireplace is original as is the ceiling and the windows which have some latches that are well worth a closer look at they were designed by Mr Doxford snr who was an engineer who along with his family bought the house from Beatrix Potter when she sold it. They are unique to our building.

If you take a look at the history of the house wall you will see there is a picture of the lounge taken long ago, showing the fireplace and the ceiling still looking very much the same. One noticeable difference you will see is where the double doors through to the bar area were not always there, it was a solid wall and, that room was our dining room before the extension was built, it would certainly be a bit of a squeeze if that was still the case!!

With large windows overlooking the gardens, this room has lots of natural daylight and direct access to the gardens.

This room is licensed to hold civil ceremonies and is suitable for smaller weddings.
