The Lakeland Motor Museum

The fascinating museum nestles in the picturesque Leven Valley, at Backbarrow, close to the southern tip of Lake Windermere. A diverse and unique road transport collection of some 30,000 exhibits assembled over a period of almost 50 years is thoughtfully displayed alongside many non-motoring additions, in fully DDA-compliant state-of-the-art premises with a beautiful lakeside setting.

This thought-provoking and thoroughly enjoyable attraction with Visit England, VAQAS (Visitor Attraction Quality Assurance Scheme) accreditation, provides a perfect, whatever the weather, all-year venue certain to entertain and enthral all ages. The attraction benefits from free Car Parking and is open 7 days a week this is a great day out for all.

The museum has perhaps the largest collection of motoring memorabilia on public display, in the UK. Petrol pumps, globes, clothing, enamel advertising signs, pedal cars, badges, mascots, garage equipment, die-cast scale models, artworks, motor spirit and oil containers, toys and games, pottery and glassware. These historical artefacts, once quite common are now very collectable and are a reminder of a bygone age.

Vintage and veteran, classic, curious and comical, majestic, weird and wonderful. Tangible and cherished evidence of our motoring heritage, presented in an extremely organised manner for our visitor understanding and appreciation of our forefathers' ability and dexterity to constantly refine and improve, with much information as to how the motor car has permeated and sometimes now even dictates our daily lives.

From horsepower to hybrid performance and beyond with a significant collection of associated objects connected with the history of the motor car. The museum displays motor cars representing over 100 years of motoring heritage, creating an atmosphere of intrigue, fascination and nostalgia, certain to awaken many motoring memories.

The exhibits include automobilia, motor cars, motorcycles & scooters, vincent motorcycles, pedal cars, Campbell bluebird exhibition, Isle Of Man TT tribute exhibition, Levan Valley history, Early motoring in the Lake District, The history of the cycle, 1920's garage, Woman's land army, shop front recreations, fashion, electric cars - Back to the future, global climate change, 1950's cafe.
