Mark

Gardener

Mark is our gardener and single handily looks after all of our 6 acres, has been with us since 2017.

He is married to our deputy manager Clare and in his spare time (when Clare lets him!) he enjoys cycling, walking, bird watching and reading.

One of his favourite place to go is the Old Pier second-hand bookshop in Morecambe, well worth a visit if you are passing, but don’t expect it to be a quick stop, it’s an Aladdin’s cave with labyrinth like passageways so give yourself lots of time! Closely following that is being out on his bike peddling his way around the Lakes if you are bringing a bike on your holiday, he is a good person to chat too, having completed the Fred Whitton a few years ago, he knows some great cycling routes.

He is currently studying for his RHS qualification, and of course we wish him the best of luck!

Mark can also be found swimming in the Lakes, particularly Windermere or Coniston, or out on his stand up paddle board, while he is doing that, Clare can be found encouraging him, yet not participating!

Mark has a great passion for birdwatching, he is an active member of the RSPB and a frequent visitor to Leighton Moss, on the outskirts of  Carnforth, this site welcomes non-members and can be a great spot to stop for some lunch on the way home from a break away in the Lakes should you take the A6 home and not the M6.

An avid reader, Mark can easily get through 2 or 3 books a week and his favourite authors are Will Self and Haruki Murakami. Having a little mini library at home he is the largest contributor to the start of our lending library in the Morning Room.

In summer he loves to head up on the hills and wild camp (where legally permitted to do so) so he knows some great local walks if you are looking to get up amongst the clouds!
